Project Description:

An existing house was extensively renovated and extended to provide an effectively new 4 bedroom family home in this beautiful part of Ireland. The accommodation is split into 2 separate blocks which are set at different levels to allow for the fall across the site.

The first block houses the living and family areas and is orientated towards the Atlantic Ocean. Large glazed screens maximise access to these views from the kitchen, dining and living rooms. A central fireplace also provides a focal point between the dining and living rooms, and a vaulted ceiling enhances the feeling of space in these relatively small rooms.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are grouped into the second block which is set at an angle to the first block. The master bedroom is located to avail of the views towards the ocean, with the children’s bedrooms benefiting from views over the Twelve Pins in the distance.

The house is entered between these 2 blocks, where an entrance hall, provides a central circulation area and contains a small study area alongside a vertical picture window. Local dry stone walling is used to clad the external walls and the central section is clad in zinc. Natural slate is used on the pitched roof to complete the limited palette of local materials used.
