Our People

At Cantrell & Crowley we strive to attract the most creative and best-qualified people to us. Since our establishment in 1996 we have assembled core teams who possess unrivalled experience in all aspects of design and construction technology. These teams of architects, interior designers, architectural technicians and project managers are headed up by our three directors, Brian O’Neill, Shane Crowley and Raymond Grady.

 

BRIAN O’NEILL, MRIAI, Prof Dip (Arch) Dip Arch Dip PM Dip Arch Tech

Director

Brian is a Director and Architect at Cantrell & Crowley Architects.

Brian graduated from The Dublin Institute of Technology in 1988 and went on to gain further qualifications from Trinity College Dublin, Oxford Brookes University and University College Dublin.

After graduating Brian joined Cantrell Joyce architects and latterly Cantrell & Crowley Architects in 1996. Brian has over 28 years’ experience on a wide variety of projects both in Ireland and abroad. These include hospitality, residential, sports & leisure and public projects.

Brian is a member of The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and is an Architect Accredited in Conservation at Grade 3. He has worked on some major restoration projects a number of which have received awards.

RAYMOND GRADY, MRIAI, Prof Dip (Arch) Dip Arch Dip PM Dip Arch Tech

Director

Ray is a Director and Architect at Cantrell & Crowley Architects.

Ray joined Cantrell and Crowley in 1996 and became a Director of the practice in 2005. Prior to returning to Dublin he worked with Chapman Taylor and HLM Architects in London and with Aileen Barth and Associates in the USA. He trained at University College Dublin, Oxford Brookes University and the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Ray has been involved in a range of commercial, hospitality, healthcare and recreational schemes, and has extensive experience in delivering projects from inception through to completion.

Currently, Ray is working on a number of high-end residential, healthcare and hotel projects in Dublin. Ray is also heading up the practices first ventures into London with 2 no: hotel projects at Westminster and Stratford respectively.

SHANE CROWLEY, B.Arch., BSc. (Architectural)

Director

Shane is a Director and a lead design Architect at Cantrell & Crowley Architects.

Shane qualified with a Batchelor of Architecture from UCD in 1998 and has over 20 years’ experience. Shane has spent six years overseas with internationally renowned practices in Melbourne and Dubai including 3 years with GAJ Architects, a world leader in hospitality and commercial design. He has particular experience in hotel and apartment design and has received commendations for his work in both Ireland and the Middle East.

Projects completed include a number of large scale apartment schemes, along with several 5-star and 4-star hotels. He is currently working on a range of hospitality projects in London and Dublin, and is also involved in a number of local apartment schemes.

JOHN CANTRELL, B.Arch., FRIAI

Founding Partner

John was educated at Blackrock College and graduated in Architecture from University College Dublin in 1977. He was the founding partner of the firm Cantrell Joyce Architects, prior to merging with David Crowley to form Cantrell & Crowley Architects in 1996.  John has been responsible for many significant projects over the years including Citywest Business Park and a number of hotels throughout Ireland and the UK.

John is a keen sportsman and played international rugby for Ireland from 1975 to 1982. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.

DAVID CROWLEY, B.Arch., FRIAI RIBA MIDI

Founding Partner

Born in 1947, David Crowley was educated at Gonzaga College S J, University College Dublin and Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, graduating in 1970 with an Honours B. Senior Director

John was educated at Blackrock College and graduated in Architecture from University College Dublin in 1977. He was the founding partner of the firm Cantrell Joyce Architects, prior to merging with David Crowley to form Cantrell & Crowley Architects in 1996.  John has been responsible for many significant projects over the years including Citywest Business Park and a number of hotels throughout Ireland and the UK.

John is a keen sportsman and played international rugby for Ireland from 1975 to 1982. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.

DAVID CROWLEY, B.Arch., FRIAI RIBA MIDI

Senior Director
