Merrion Hotel, Cellar Bar, Dublin

Project Details:

Client: Merrion Hotel
Status: Completed
Value: Private

Project Description:

The Merrion Hotel required a refurbishment of the cellar bar situated in the basement of Mornington House, an 18th century building, which consisted of thick random stone walls and beautiful brick vaults, both of which were exposed and carefully restored to form the main theme of the bar. The bar counter is situated in the front rooms adjoining Merrion Street and is constructed of native Irish oak, which is also used to line the structural openings and conceal the concrete interventions. Each of the other rooms resembles a snug with individually designed pieces of furniture interpreting the period. It won a commendation in the RIAI Conservation Awards.
