Ashbourne Parish Development
Client: Ashbourne Parish
The proposed Parish Centre provides facilities for group activity and meeting rooms for use by parishioners and the local community, in addition to new parish offices. The location and form of the building creates an external space between the existing church and the new centre, where people can meet and gather. Three residential units are also proposed to the rear of the centre for parish use.
In addition, an old schoolhouse on the site is to be restored and extended to provide additional parish facilities. The proposed office and retail building to the south provides a transition between the existing streetscape and the old schoolhouse, creating a forecourt in front of this protected structure.
The new buildings have been carefully positioned and massed so as to impact positively on the older buildings, which remain central to the new development. The new buildings flank these protected structures at each extremity and seek to regenerate the remainder of this very important site at the heart of Ashbourne, by creating a hub of parish and community activity.
