Cork House, River Thames, London – Manser Medal Winner 2019

A remarkably successful experiment in sustainable architecture, the Cork House in Eton scooped the 2019 Manser Medal and was also shortlisted for the 2019 RIBA Stirling Prize.

Cork House was built on a small island in the River Thames and is praised for its whole-life approach to sustainability with its solid cork walls and corbelled cork roof. Built from a single plant-based material, using prefabricated interlocking cork bricks without any glue or mortar.
